2021 Côte Bodhi

98% Syrah + 2% Viognier (Rancho Boa Vista Vineyard – Ballard Canyon)

Fall is for Bodhi. Fall is the season of change, but it is also the season of choices. At the winery we begin to see the new wines take form and transition from primary to secondary fermentation. We make thoughtful decisions to begin shaping the life and character of
each wine, and we do so with pleasure in our hearts. My son Bodhi is inspired by curiosity. He is inquisitive, intelligent, passionate, helpful, and caring. He is a California boy through and through, and he may just turn out to be one of the most interesting
people I know. Bodhi has a spark of creativity in his soul, and like his season he is transforming before our eyes. Côte Bodhi is an homage to the famous region in Northern Rhône with Ballard Canyon Syrah at its heart and a playful hint of Viognier on the palate. This wine -like Bodhi- is handsome, thoughtful, and may just pique your curiosity.

Team Note: There's a little bit of magic in Côte Bodhi. Inspired by one of Billy's favorite AOC’s in France, Côte Rôtie, where they incorporate a hint of Viognier in their Syrah - for Billy, good Côte Rôtie is one of the most impressive wine experiences he’s had as an enthusiast. The small addition of Viognier provides an aromatic perfume and gives the Syrah a beautiful lift. On the nose, we get a hint of brown sugar paired with clove, all-spice, and rich long tannins that will eventually round and mellow while still maintaining a ripe, light and bright profile. This is just the very beginning of this wines journey that will only get better overtime. Just like Bodhi, this wine has a long story to tell and a beautiful life to live. We love to pair it with Stacey's slow cooked baby back
ribs. 

Winemaker's Note: Ballard Canyon is that great area that has a balance of fruit and spice - a valley far enough inland that you get the heat with a mountain behind it keeping in the coastal breeze
